The links implant is a miracle surgery! I admit, I rolled my eyes a bit when Dr. Chiasson said, “Let’s cure your GERD.” For over 12 years since being diagnosed, I’ve been diligent about the lifestyle changes; raised the head of my bed, changed my diet and meal frequency, and took the antacid prescriptions. The reflux and regurgitation got bad enough that I had to plan every activity of my every day around my symptoms or meals!

From the moment I woke from my surgery, all of those GERD symptoms were gone! I am still amazed now, six months later, how well the LINX device works. Thank you so much, Dr. Chiasson, for improving my lifestyle with the LINX implant and the large hiatal hernia repair, done during the same surgery. I am grateful to be done with GERD!”

“I highly recommend Dr. Patrick M. Chiasson, bariatric and foregut surgeon, because he is knowledgeable, professional, and approachable, as well as, competent, respectful and kind. I felt comfortable with Dr. Chiasson. I feel he has excellent communication skills. Whenever I came into his office with a list of questions and concerns, he took the time to answer each one. I needed to undergo tests before the surgery, and he would give me a copy of each report briefly summarizing the results. He seems to genuinely care, showing empathy when I was struggling. I needed to call him on the weekend after my surgery and he returned my calls within a few minutes, spending all the time needed on the phone assessing the situation and giving suggestions to help me. Then calling the next morning to check on me to see how I was doing. I appreciated the handouts given to me explaining pre-op and post-op expectations at one of my office visits. It was such helpful information. While in the hospital after my surgery, not only did Dr. Chiasson stop in to check on me, but also his Nurse Practitioner did, twice. During the surgery he took photos of the actual surgery and shared them with me.

I would also like to mention the surgery team. He and his surgical team provided quality patient care. This includes the anesthesiologist, the techs, the nurses, the NP, which worked with Dr. Chiasson during my surgery, as well as the nurses that worked pre-surgery and in recovery.

All were friendly, kind, considerate, respectful, patient, and reassuring. The recovery nurse even walked out to the waiting room where my brother was to let him know how I was doing, twice, since visitors weren’t allowed in the recovery room.

I also found his front desk staff friendly and professional. Each time I needed to call his medical assistant with a question or concern, she would return my call in a timely manner. When talking with her, she would always end with, “If you have any more questions or concerns, just give us a call”

All of this has given me much confidence in Dr. Chiasson. I want to thank him for the great care and successful LINX surgery and hiatal hernia repair he performed on me. THANK YOU Dr. Chiasson; I am grateful that you were my surgeon.”

“I wanted to express my gratitude to Dr.Chiasson. He saved my husband’s life. After numerous surgeries no physician in town would touch Dennis. Not even Mayo Clinic due to the difficulty of the surgery needed.

Our last hope was Dr. Chiasson. Word of mouth got us to find Dr. Chiasson. I can only say a huge thank you to him and his staff even though that seems like saying very little.”

“My experience with Dr. Patrick Chiasson was amazing. He and the office staff provided caring service from the first visit, through my LINX implantation with hiatal hernia repair, and follow up. There was always excellent communication and explanation of the process. He is professional and compassionate at the same time. I never had a doctor spend so much time with me. His enthusiasm and the ability to create calm and peace with his patients is excellent. He even made time to answer questions on the day of surgery. Dr. Chiasson is the foremost surgeon in the Tucson area practicing the newest techniques and technology correcting diseases of the esophagus. Iam happy to say he has turned my misery into new comfort.”

“Wonderful experience with Northwest Bariatric and Foregut Surgery. The care was excellent. Dr. Chiasson is a wonderful surgeon, and the staff are friendly and ensured that I was properly informed about my health and care. Dr. Chiasson did a tremendous job from my first exam to post-op. He explained everything to me in a very clear manner. He is extremely knowledgeable and personable as well as kind and friendly. They ensured I had a smooth prep, surgery, and follow-up. I am so glad my PCP referred me to Dr. Chiasson and would highly recommend to anyone. It’s rare to find a doctor that that has compassion for a patient and provides outstanding quality medical care. He is extremely knowledgeable and personable. Very grateful for Dr. Chiasson.”

“Just want to say that my Husband has been plagued with iron deficiency for 12 years. We knew he had a hiatal hernia that was bleeding. It was hard for us because My Husband was not Exhibiting normal symptoms. We have Been turned down even by the Mayo Clinic.

We have had 3 surgeons turn us away, but I think it was GOD SENDING US IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION! Dr. Chiasson is the best that you can get! If you are in a bad situation, Please contact Him. This is coming from experience. Please follow my advice because you will only be wasting time, and he is truly the VERY BEST! Thank You, Dr. Chiasson”

“(Dr. Chiasson’s) bedside manner is impeccable and he has an uncanny way of making you feel like you’re the MOST IMPORTANT person in the world to him; that he would do anything for you he possibly could…Dr. Chiasson is the BEST doctor I’ve ever had the privilege of knowing. He removed my gallbladder a year after my weight loss surgery and I entrusted him with my life twice… I am at goal now… He literally gave me back my life! Both his surgical competence and bedside manner are SUPER.”

“As someone who has a masters in nursing and someone who has had 22 operations in the last five years, I can attest to the fact that I have never experienced a more hands-on, involved Dr in my life. Dr. Chiasson seeks to not only help his patients but improve their quality of life. His compassion and considerate nature are unmatched. Though he does many bariatric surgeries, I saw him for a medical condition that few Doctors are willing to treat and he exceeded all of my expectations.”

“I want to thank Dr. Chiasson for giving me a second chance in life. I would not be able to handle being over 400 lbs. I had surgery Nov.12, 2014 and currently down a total of 190 lbs. I was asked to speak at a national weight loss surgery conference a couple of weeks ago and never thought that I would stand up in front of a crowd of people from across the county and talk about my success. Thank you so much again, Dr. Chiasson. I am living life again to the fullest.”

M.L.

“I am so grateful and so lucky to have been referred to Dr. Chiasson who has a great bedside manner and fully explains and answers questions. He never seems pressed for time on office visits and it is a relaxed and engaging experience with the staff at the office. The entire experience was a good one with a really good outcome. I h ave a new lease on life and I want to thank Dr. Chiasson for his help and skill. I fully endorse Dr. Chiasson for anyone considering bariatric surgery.”

“I had laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass in 2004 performed by Dr. Chiasson and it was the best medical experience for me. I have kept the weight off after 10 years and have not had a re-occurrence of high blood pressure nor diabetes. If you decide bariatric surgery is for you, I would recommend having your gall gladder removed at the same time, as this was the only complication from the initial surgery.

“Dr. Patrick Chiasson is an excellent doctor who took the time to really understand my medical needs and did a great job of listening. From the initial appointment, the follow-up appointment, the surgery, and the post-op appointment, I knew I was in caring and knowledgeable hands. I would recommend Dr. Chiasson to anyone who may need his services. Thank you Dr. Chiasson!”

“Prior to attending the informational seminar about weight loss surgery, I was unaware that gastric surgery could be done with a single incision. After learning that indeed it can be done if one meets certain size requirements, I was still ambivalent about having one or many incisions because I knew that for vanity reasons, I wouldn’t be showing off my scars either way. When Dr. Chiasson approached me with the option of doing the spider incision, I decided to go along with this method. After my surgery, I was very happy that I just had one incision instead of multiple. With just one incision that needed to heal, I felt that my recovery time was easier and shorter compared to others who had many incisions that needed to heal. I would recommend this approach to anyone who is considering it.”

“Dr. Chiasson, I wanted to let you know how happy I am with my outpatient vertical sleeve surgery. You changed my life, for the better! Everyone I encountered was kind, helpful, and knowledgeable. Both you and your staff took the extra time with me to answer all my questions and to make sure I had everything I needed. I was pleasantly surprised this could be done as outpatient surgery and I could recuperate in my own home the very same day. It was such a comforting feeling. The surgery went smooth, my time in the recovery room was with exceptional care before being discharged. You can tell that you and your staff really care. I would highly recommend Dr. Chiasson if you are looking to do VGS and look into it as an outpatient, you will be glad you did.”

“Dr. Chiasson was part of the team that literally saved my life when I was diagnosed with cancer of the gastric/esophageal junction. His surgery was nothing short of miraculous. There are no signs of cancer and I am now having follow-up chemo and radiation therapy. I have a very well-founded hope of complete and long-lasting recovery. I’ve been told that this particular surgery if done in the traditional manner, requires at least two to three weeks of hospitalization and a prolonged period of recovery. I went home on the fifth day, already starting to eat on my own, and continued to add foods daily, in conjunction with a feeding tube for a short while.”

“I had a Gastric Sleeve surgery in December 2014. Dr. Chiasson and his team provided outstanding care prior to the surgery, on the day of the surgery, and for the last year and a half. Everyone has been highly professional and caring. My surgery has been a success and I appreciate the continued support offered by his team as I continue to live my new healthy life. Thank you, Dr. Chiasson, for being there when I really needed assistance with my healthcare. You have given me my life back with my husband and children — I’ve lost 140 lbs and I’ve never felt better!”

“After suffering from Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) for many years and achieving only short-term relief from a variety of medications, I realized that I needed to find a permanent cure for my illness and help me to regain a normal, functional lifestyle.

I checked the Internet for area surgeons that specialized in GERD-related issues and, after thoroughly vetting each of the doctors listed, made an appointment to meet with Dr. Patrick Chiasson.  During my initial visit, Dr. Chiasson listened carefully to my concerns and took the time to discuss the best available options that could manage and hopefully resolve my condition.  After discussing options with Dr. Chiasson, I was interested in learning more about the Linx Reflux Management System. Dr. Chiasson demonstrated the simple device made of interlinked titanium beads and explained that it is installed at the junction of the esophagus and the stomach through a minimally invasive laparoscopic procedure. As an engineer, I was intrigued by the device’s simplicity of design and its significant record of proven effectiveness. After some additional study of the Linx Reflux Management System, I advised Dr. Chiasson that I would like to move forward with the procedure.

Over the next three weeks, I underwent several tests designed to determine the severity of my condition and to generate data that would be used to determine if the Linx Reflux Management System was appropriate for me. After the test results were reviewed I was scheduled for surgery. From the minute I entered the Northwest Medical Center I was provided with immediate attention and care. The in-processing procedure was quick and efficient, and within a very short time, I was taken back to the pre-op area. Once again the professional staff was efficient and attentive, and their professionalism and humor placed me at ease. I obviously don’t have any memory of what happened next, but when I awoke, I was taken to my room where at the team of caring professionals assured me that I received all the attention and care that I needed. The next morning I was discharged and was able to complete my short recovery at home.

Today marks two months since my surgery, and I can honestly say that my life has changed for the better. The proton pump inhibitor medications that I had been taking for the past five years are no longer needed. I have not taken any medication since my surgery and I have not experienced even one episode of pain or discomfort that was a daily occurrence prior to my surgery.

Dr. Chiasson and his team provided me with an opportunity to enjoy the rest of my life without pain and without medication.  His staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and professional and always greeted me with a smile.  I would like to thank Dr. Chiasson for his skill and compassion for his profession. I fully endorse Dr. Chiasson for anyone who needs relief from recurrent pain.”

“I would highly recommend Dr. Patrick Chiasson. He is very kind, caring, and listens to you. Dr. Chiasson will spend as much time as necessary explaining everything and answering all questions. After my gastric bypass 10 years ago, I gained the weight back. Dr. Chiasson explained all of my options very thoroughly, and we agreed on the Enteroenterostomy Anastomosis to revise my Gastric Bypass procedure. It was laparoscopic and performed as an outpatient procedure. Dr. Chiasson spent time talking with me prior to the procedure in pre-op, and again offered support, reassurance, and answered my questions. I was home within a few hours after surgery. Recovery was fast and went very well. As A Registered Nurse, I see the great care Dr. Chiasson gives to his patients. As a patient, I received the same wonderful care.”

“I don’t know if there are enough words to Thank Dr. Patrick Chiasson sufficiently for how much he has done for me! I have suffered from severe Gastric Gastroparesis for over 5 years. Before moving to Arizona a year ago, I sought help from 7 GI specialists in Chicago, made 2 trips to the Mayo Clinic, had more than 16 feeding tube replacements, and dozens of tests and procedures. I also suffer from extreme POTS (a low blood pressure condition), which when teamed up with my Gastroparesis caused me to pass out, sometimes as frequent as 3 times a day, and caused 26 concussions. I was told by the GI specialists in Chicago that this condition (constant nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, passing out, and having a permanent feeding tube) was going to be my life. It was suggested to try to eat solid food daily, and just be happy that only 80% of what I ate would come right back up.

The constant stomach acid and vomiting attacking my teeth, gums, and jaw bones caused me to have all my teeth surgically removed at age 42. My quality of life was non-existent. When we arrived in Tucson, I had to find new doctors, and my GI referred me to Dr. Chiasson. It is truly unbelievable that in the 4 months I’ve been seeing him, he has changed my life! Dr. Chiasson took the time to look at every element of my illness and all my medications, and didn’t just settle for business as usual. He strived to find a solution to alleviate my constant nausea and stomach pain. He provided a diagnosis that a Gastric Bypass surgery for Gastroparesis would be the answer to my illness. I had surgery on December 16, 2020 and my life has been changed forever! I no longer have a feeding tube, and I’m actually eating solid foods and drinking fluids (slowly) again! I haven’t felt this healthy in over 5 years! I have spent more time laughing, walking (yes, walking!), and spending time with my husband in the past few weeks, than I had in the longest time! I spent 75% of 2020 in a hospital or my bed because I was so sick.

Dr. Chiasson took the time to listen to me and help me. I never felt rushed, or that I was just another patient. He and his awesome Team cared for me every step of the way, before and after surgery. There was an amazing bonus to this surgery for me: not only has it already improved my Gastroparesis by 90%, my other health problems are improving as well. Passing out has almost been eliminated, no epileptic seizures, and some medications have been eliminated. I’m walking 2 miles a day (previously I couldn’t walk around a store), and I’ve lost 25 pounds – and I can’t wait for more! (I was an odd patient who gained significant amounts of weight from my medication; a fat man with a feeding tube!). Now I’m learning a healthier way to eat and living a better life. I can’t express how 5 years of hearing “nothing we can do” from every doctor broke me, and thankfully Dr. Patrick Chiasson has been able to put the pieces back together.”

“I had been diagnosed with GERD in 2006 and had been taking Omeprazole in increasing dosages over the years (up to 80 mg. per day) when in March of 2019, I was referred by my ENT doctor to Dr. Chiasson to be assessed for a possible surgical procedure.

After tests revealed that I had severe GERD and that the medications were proving to be ineffective, Dr. Chiasson advised me to consider the TIF 2.0 procedure. In January of 2020, he performed the procedure. By the 7th week of recovery, when I had completed the dietary restrictions of the procedure, Dr. Chiasson had me begin weaning off of the last 1/2 (40 mg) of Omeprazole. One month later, I was completely off of the medication and have had no GERD issues whatsoever.

During the recovery period, I had some pain and discomfort and, frankly, some anxiety and doubts about how successful the procedure was (it has an 80% success rate), but Dr. Chiasson and his staff (notably Vivian) were incredibly patient, and reassuring, even to the point of conducting a lower GI scan to make sure the procedure was successful. It was, and that went a long way in reassuring me. Now, nearly four months later, my life feels as if I never had GERD to begin with. Dr. Chiasson and his staff were nothing short of amazing. I highly recommend him, as well as the TIF procedure.”
