Weight loss surgery has been a focus of my surgical practice for over the last decade. I started the first bariatric program in Tucson, Arizona at Northwest Medical Center over a decade ago. Since then, I have expanded my practice to offer all of the primary weight loss surgical procedures utilizing Minimally Invasive techniques allowing the operation to be tailored to meet the needs of the patient. These procedures include:
- Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy
- Gastric Bypass
- Duodenal Switch
- Adjustable Gastric Band
- Bariatric Revision Procedures
- Orbera Intragastric Balloon
The Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy has been a particular interest and recently, I have accepted the role as an educational consultant for Ethicon Endo Surgery to train other surgeons nationally in this technique. My practice has also expanded to be one of a few bariatric surgeons offering the SPIDER® Surgical System, which is a new surgical platform that enables the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy to be performed through a single incision in the belly button—potentially creating a virtually scarless result.
Unsuccessful weight loss or weight regain as well as complications from weight loss surgery can unfortunately occur for some patients, therefore bariatric revision procedures are offered in my surgical practice for this patient population. Adjustable Gastric Band patients who fail can benefit from band removal or a conversion to another weight loss surgical procedure. The Rose procedure, placement of an Adjustable Gastric Band around the gastric pouch, or a conversion to a duodenal switch can help unsuccessful gastric bypass patients. There are also a number of surgical options available for patients that experience complications due to weight loss surgery to help with chronic band slips, ulcers, and intestinal issues.
An extensive website has been created for patients interested in Weight Loss Surgery, please visit Arizona Weight Loss for more information.
I had a Gastric Sleeve surgery in December 2014. Dr. Chiasson and his team provided outstanding care prior to the surgery, on the day of the surgery, and for the last year and a half. Everyone has been highly professional and caring. My surgery has been a success and I appreciate the continued support offered by his team as I continue to live my new healthy life. Thank you Dr. Chiasson for being there when I really needed assistance with my healthcare. You have given me my life back with my husband and children — I’ve lost 140 lbs and I’ve never felt better!
